About Hearing
Hearing is one of the most important ways that we experience and enjoy life. The sounds that we hear, whether it be laughter, birds chirping, or a baby saying her first word, make life special. If a hearing loss is present, missing out on these special sounds impacts the pleasure of life.
The first step to treating a hearing loss is to realize that one exists. If you notice a friend or loved one showing any of the following signs, encourage them to make an appointment with our office for a hearing evaluation. Those signs might include:
- Asking you to repeat what you said because they are having a difficult
time understanding.
- Listening to the television or radio at a louder volume than what others
normally do.
- Having trouble understanding conversation when in background noise.
- Having difficulty hearing over the telephone.
- Avoiding public events or social situations where they have a hard time
hearing others.
- Leaning their head in toward the speaker to better hear what is being
said.
- Not responding accurately to questions or comments or misunderstanding what was said.
